Match Report: BRADFORD DISTRICT CUP CHAMPIONS

29/04/2023/in News /by Phoenix FC

🏆BRADFORD DISTRICT CUP CHAMPIONS🏆BRADFORD UNITED 3-1 Calverley Utd

As per usual the pre-match predictions weren’t completely in Bradford’s favour. There has been a slight change from loss predictions to “close game” predicted. The boys continue to make mockery of such analysis week in week out and seem to revel in being the underdog. There is huge respect between both teams as they both go through transitional seasons albeit with Bradford surpassing all exceptions.

On to the game it self, pre match message was it’s a cup final and anything is possible for any team. Enjoy the occasion and show how far the team has come along this season to cap it off with a trophy.

A couple of changes to squad with Kaiser Ali suspended, prolific striker Atta injured and Turkish National Mehmet unavailable.

Bradford come flying out the blocks eager to stamp their authority on the game they attacked and immediately Umar raced through after being played in by Musa’s pin point ball. In the wide area he holds off a defender then a sharp direct turn saw him create an opening and slots home in the bottom left corner. 1-0 2mins on the clock.

With any cup final nerves gone, Bradford take control of the game and look to add a second to assert their dominance. After that there was a few chances but the game slows down and allows Calverley to creep back in and gain some possession without creating much in the final third.

Just before half time an excellent ball swung into the box by captain marvel Zain causing havoc and Mister Bradford United is there to pounce on the ball to make it 2-0. Umar Ali with second of the game. Just what Bradford United deserve for all the procession and control in the first half.

2-0 HT

Message at half time to be more clinical in front of goal and go for the jugular.

Both teams started okay with a couple of chances each end. After failing to clear the ball, Calverley score more or less against the run of play. A few opportunities to clear the lines not taken, 2-1 Game On!

For the next 5/10mins the nerves seem to get the better of the players but they managed to calm down and gain composure and possession of the game. Another set piece swung in and the ball lands to Hassan on the back post who makes no mistake and pokes home the third to create the two goal cushion again. The fan favourite runs over to the fans as they celebrate together.

The rest of the game is managed and controlled by Bradford United with a few half chances each for both team.

MOM – The organisers picked out Aman Khan and he was tremendous all game. Phenomenal in midfield dictated the game always seems to be in the right place at the right time. He has been ever present in the midfield this season and you can see why.

Commensurations to Calverley management and players who were a class act through out, not easy losing in final but you should be proud of what you have achieved to get this far. See you lads Wednesday for the league game.
