Bradford District Cup – Last 16

Bradford United 2-3 Gomersal & Cleckheaton

2nd round of the Bradford District Cup. A trophy we won last season. But not to be this. The game itself started at a ferocious pace. Gomersal showed their intentions early; direct, 50/50s & set pieces. We couldn’t cope early & it was Gomersal who took the lead, a cheap free kick which Gomersal scored; fair play, great free kick. In fairness, we never got started until that.

The cries from the dugout were to be patient & try to play football. The one time this happened in the first half Juwara twinkle toed his way into the opposition box making no mistake when got close enough. Nothing more to add as both teams went toe to toe but little clear cut chances.

Simple message at HT, show abit of character & bravery. The first 30 minutes of the half we did this and it was all Bradford. Brad found space in the wing back areas, played in Umar who slotted with his left foot. With Gomersal now pushing on, we were presented the chance to finish the game from another lighting counter attack but Juwara hit the bar.

Fine margins as within 5-10 minutes of this; Gomersal found themselves 3-2 up. Firstly, from the corner 2 uncontested headers saw them level. Secondly, a simple long ball from the keeper saw another uncontested flick on where the Gomersal winger latched onto & smashed it home. From then onwards, Gomersal sat back & we threw the kitchen sink at it & had 2/3 big chances to level. We didn’t take them & that showed the level we’re at. Very fine margins.

Can’t be hard on anyone today, everyone gave more than 100%. It just wasn’t to be. We’ll bounce back. All good team do.

BRADFORD UNITED 2- 3 WAKEFIELD THORNESIANS

Bradford United looking to go unbeaten for the 7th game and progress in the Cup. Wakefield started on the front foot and scored early from a corner. After the initial lethargic 10 minutes, the boys fought back to get the equaliser, with rooney smashing home from a long clearance from ricardo. Bradford United continued to dominate the rest the half and created 5 clear chances but weren’t able to put them away.

Second half started in the same manner as the first half, which saw Wakefield score 2 quick goals from 2 freekicks. A real wake up call for the lads. We pushed hard to try and get back in the game. With 15 minutes remaining, we got our second goal through Rooney, once again finishing smartly after a cleaver through ball from muj. The come back wasn’t to be as Wakefield finished the match as Well deserved winners.

Match Report: Harrogate Railway V Bradford United Ladies

Bradford United V Harrogate Railway

Harrogate Railway V Bradford United

A tough battle for the ladies on the pitch with the final score coming to 8-2.

Bradford tried a new formation this game, and the defensive line was brilliant to catch Harrogate offside multiple times throughout the game.

From the whistle, both teams were engaging to get that first goal with Harrogate being successful.

The Ladies continued on, however an unfortunate accidental handball gave Harrogate Railway another goal.

In the second half, as the weather conditions got harsher, the ladies still powered through looking to get some goals into the net, however kept getting caught out by Harrogate with their long balls that got past our defensive line.

Bradford managed to score 2 goals in the second half with one being an assist from Halima through to Zahraa and the other being a goal from Zahraa after getting through Harrogate’s defence.

It was an unfortunate outcome for Bradford after the ladies gave everything they had, given the weather conditions. The ladies will only get stronger and come back better.

YAL – Supreme Division

Bradford United 6-0 Alwoodley

What a difference 12 months makes. Same opposition, same pitch, game ended up 2-2. Fast forward today; 6-0 it ended. Truth be told, there was only 1 winner from minute 1. In the end scoreline flattered them and could have been so much more.

Alwoodley credit to them never stopped working all game. Started bravely with a high line & we’re caught out early. Kas played an Alonso-esque ball over the top with Umar making no mistake having only the keeper to beat. More goals should have been added but lacked of composure in the final moment. Crossbar, keeper, defender or just poor finishing. 1-0 HT.

Second half was total domination. Lovely football with the finishing touches. Kas started us off with a mazy run to make it 2, beautiful goal. Umar made it 3 & 4 with some lovely finishes. But we weren’t done just there, the star of the show Akeel Khan who puts a 7-8/10 wherever he is played got 2 goals of his own sprinkling that little bit of stardust on the performance.

The first was like watching Liverpool; one full back to the other. Harris crossing in for Akeel to head in back post. The second not so much but once again, Harris shooting after working a great position but it was Akeel who was most alert tapping in the rebound.

A massive positive was the mood in the camp. Nothing but positivity & encouragement. Worked wonders for us as we’ve possibly had our best performance to date.

Bradford United u23s 2- 2 Wortley

After 5 wins on the bounce, the lads were looking to continue the winning streak.

2 changes made to the starting 11. Rooney in for the injured mahine and New signing Naeem came in for his first appearance to replace Micheal.

The game started exactly as we expected. Wortley kicked and threw long at every given opportunity but the lads stood strong and dealt with it. Bradford United tried playing on the floor but proved difficult due to the pitch conditions. There was no real flow to the game which led to a stalemate till the 40th minute. Having a quiet game for his usual standards, Rooney showed his class inside the box going past 2 defenders and slotting home low to the keepers right. 1-0 to Bradford United.

Half time 1-0

Second half started exactly how we expected as Wortley came out of the traps, determined to not let us settle on the ball. After some sloppy play giving 2 set pieces away, Wortley made the second one count with a deep cross to the back post with was headed by their centre half. The opposition made it 2-1 from what looked blatantly offside. Our lads standing still, with arms in the air, waiting for the ref to blow the whistle but it wasn’t to be as Wortley took the lead.

With 20 minutes left, we played some good football passing through the lines, but didn’t make the most of the half chances created.

1 minute to go, we won a freekick at the edge of the box. Rooney steps up shooting low to the keepers right who parried the ball into the path of the oncoming Muj who made no mistake to earn us a well deserved draw. FT 2-2

Bradford United III vs Shire Academics III

A bad patch for the lads recently and they knew what was at stake and what they needed to do to overcome this.

The last set out very well however 5 minutes in gifted shire the lead with an error. 1-0 shire. That didn’t stop the lads from keeping the ball and creating chances which we then executed when Sulaiq put Adil in and he slotted superbly in the bottom corner 1-1.

We then started to dominate the game however another silly error gifted shire yet another scrappy goal. 2-1 Shire. The lead didn’t last long again dominated possession in which Ramzan pulls a great pass back to Adil who again slotted home with ease to make it 2-2.

Skipper wanted to make up for an error and he sure did that with a monster header from a great corner kick from Sahil. HT 3-2.

The second half we were again in control of possession creating many chances. Ramzan superbly brushed aside 2 defenders only to smack the crossbar in what would have been the goal of the game so unlucky.

A fair few chances missed and then shire get a corner and put the header away with nobody marking him. 3-3

Last 15 minutes the lads were eager for another as they kept pushing and pushing but just couldn’t find the back of net.

We then got a bit of luck after it was all going shires way with luck. The ball comes to Sahil on the edge of the box who tries to drive the ball in the box and there was that man Sulaiq poaching like Ruud Van Nistelrooy and give the boys a well deserved lead after such a dominant performance. County Cup – 2nd Round

Horsforth St Magarets 1-1 Bradford United 1sts (4-5 Pens)

After a poor display last week today was all about reactions & a reaction is what we got. Today we saw the real Bradford United. Every single man played his role including the 2 on the bench. Hard work and graft for their team mates and the badge.

The game itself was a game of 2 halves. Bradford dominated in first half; second half was HSM. Bradford started on the front foot; Mehmet got us going with a class finish. Cruising on another day we score more than 1, instead a lapse of concentration in defence meant we were pegged back just before the interval. 1-1 HT.

The second half was another test of character; under the cosh for majority but held out whilst maintaining an attacking presence on the break. In fairness it was the Fabio show as he some fantastic saves to keep us in this game atoning for his first half error. 1-1 FT. Penalties! Fabio was once again the hero as he saved HSM’s first pen. Our boys making no mistake to send us through into the last 32.

County Cup – 2nd Round

Bradford United U23s 6 – 3 Middleton Park

2 changes made (Ricardo and Micheal) to the line up from last game as we looked to make it 4 wins on the bounce.

We wanted to get at them from the get go and we found our rhythm straight away stringing some fantastic passes through the lines. As usual, we had a few half chances but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net but we knew it was going to come.

Our first goal came from Yaseen at the back post slotting home expertly after some scintillating combinations from back to front. As the saying goes “you are at your most vulnerable after you score” and that is exactly what happened from the restart on 2 separate occasions as Middleton Park made it 2-1 in quick succession. This was an important part of the game and It was crucial we stood up and reacted in a positive way to the opposition scoring 2 goals to take the lead. We kept playing our way and being confident on the ball which resulted in us winning a corner. Muj drove a low corner which some how managed to get through Middleton’s defence and found its way to Greeny who made no mistake smashing it home from close range to make it 2-2.

We grew in confidence and kept pushing for the lead. The lead came through yaseen once again playing the ball out wide to maheen followed by a run into the box. Maheen then rolled the ball into yaseen’s path who showed some good feet to find some space and slot home to make it 3-2.

Half time: 3-2

Middleton started the second half on the front foot as we struggled to continue our dominance from the first half. After some sloppy play from us losing the ball, then not counter pressing effectively and then not dealing the cross, they scored their third goal to make it 3-3 . It was the wake up call we needed and deserved after switching off. Some changes were made to give us some fresh legs as the boys had worked their socks off all game. The boys adapted well to their new roles and pushed them back giving us more space all over the pitch.

After a few further shaky minutes, we got back to dominating the game with occasionally riding our luck. We got the lead through Greeny clipping a TRENT esque ball from the right inside channel, to the back post with emanuel finishing left foot on the volley. Great finish!

Minutes later, after some good work from Mazn playing a clever ball through to Micheal. Micheal went round the keeper and would have scored if it wasn’t for a great save from their left back. No hand ball according to the referee. Absolute madness of a decision.

From here on, only one team looked like adding to the score line. We got a further 2 goals. First one through Greeny with a monster of a header at the back post. Not forgetting the brilliant short corner routine from muj (musiala) and yaseen (Joao Felix) and Mazn blocking off both centre backs to clear the path for Greeny. We kept up the high tempo and pushed for further goals. Last 5 minutes the opposition defended, desperately throwing their bodies on the line but it didn’t stop us scoring our sixth goal. Mo finishing well in the box to seal the deal👊🏼

All in all, a well deserved win 👏

Bradford United U21s 1-5 Nostell Miners

Today it was all about trying to get back into the form displayed in the early weeks of the season.

The lads started the game well and tried to control the tempo of the game bringing the ball out from the back and building combinations into the final third however a defensive error lead to Nostell taking an early lead 1-0. The lads then seen themselves two behind again with another error at the back and Nostell punished us and made it 2-0. We then got hit on the break but not closing the man early and allowing to run through so freely and then the Nostell forward latched onto the parry from the keeper making it 3-0. The lads didn’t give up and tried to pick themselves up but again another error and another goal 4-0 Nostell.

HT 4-0

The half time team talk was to show some pride and to pick this up as it was not good enough at all as we are levels above this.

A steady start to the half and a lot of desire was shown to control the game however again an error from two defenders left the run of the midfielder being called onside who made it 5-0 with ease and put the game surely out of sight. We pulled one back through Sulaiq who finished from a great ball from Mustafa. 5-1. We then started to apply more pressure and played some really good combinations from the midfield into the final third however it simply wasn’t good enough and it was too late to try and get something out of the game.

Match Report: Bradford United Ladies V Skipton Town

Bradford United V Skipton

Another bad day in the office. Despite the tough circumstances and the absence of key players, it turned out to be a day of huge loss for the ladies’ team. This game served as a challenging test for Lauren’s goalkeeping skills, and she rose to the occasion, giving it her all to protect her team’s goal with some remarkable saves and determination.

Within the first 10 minutes Bradford United Ladies took the lead with an equaliser from Sora. Sora delivered a stunning goal, finding the far left side of the net from a perfectly lobbed pass from Zahra.

The ladies managed to maintain a tight defensive line when the through balls were played through the middle, effectively thwarting those challenges. However, Skipton Ladies eventually found a gap in the wing and began exploiting the wide channels, creating a new set of challenges for the defense to contend with.

Lauren, the goalkeeper, shone brightly in an otherwise challenging match, making some excellent saves that kept her team’s hopes alive. Her remarkable efforts between the posts were crucial in preventing further goals from the opposing team

Inayah was a defensive rock for the team, making some amazing tackles and effectively sweeping away the dangers in the defensive area. Her accurate distribution from defense helped initiate several promising attacking plays, adding versatility to her contributions on the field.

Match Report: Bradford United Ladies V Farsley Celtic

Bradford United Ladies V Farsley Celtic

The Ladies fought till the end facing an 8 – 2 defeat. The primary weapon used by Farsley Celtic was the clever switch of play.

The goals conceded in the first half followed a similar pattern, with the opposing team’s midfielders and defenders pinging diagonal balls to exploit the vulnerable flanks. The quick transitions and overlapping runs on the wings added to their efficiency. Bradford United struggled to adapt to this strategy, and their defense was continuously stretched to its limits

While the first half had been challenging, it was also a valuable learning experience for the ladies’ team. The ability to adapt and respond to the tactical challenge.

At the beginning of the second half, Zahra broke through the gap between the Centre Backs and carefully slotted the ball into the bottom right corner.

With 10 minutes till the final whistle, Zahra stepped up and, with great composure, lobbed the goalkeeper from outside the box. The crowd held its breath as the ball arched over the keeper’s head, leaving her rooted to the spot. It was a spectacular display of individual skill and vision.

In the end, despite their impressive performance, Bradford United fought hard, won challenges, and showcased their skills. It was a heartbreaking outcome for the losing side, who left the pitch with heads held high, knowing that they had given everything they had. This match was a testament to the resilience and determination of these young athletes, reminding us that victory is not solely determined by the final score but by the heart and effort put into the game.

Bradford United 21s 0-2 Idle

A slow and cagey start from the lads today who just couldn’t seem to get going for the first 15-20 minutes of the game. We then got a hold of the ball and kept it well in patches and started to create opportunities but the we lacked in the final third. We then got hit with a sucker punch after a mistake lead to Idle breaking through and going ahead 1-0. We stood up to it and then should have equalised however the finish wasn’t the best from a man in great form. HT 0-1

The half time talk was simple. We need to relax and be composed on the ball and manage the game better. The lads were great in the second half and didn’t give Idle any opportunities at all. We missed more chances and again lacked in the final third today which just aint like us. Another mistake lead to Idle punishing us and taking a 2-0 lead. The lads showed great character to try and get back into the game however missed a few more chances. FT 0-2

A great experience for the lads competing with a team 4 divisions above them and again competing very well and unlucky not to take anything from the game. We go again as it’s now time to focus on the league cup and of course a huge season to compete for the league

Bradford United 2-1 Greetland

After a month of home games, Bradford United travelled to face Halifax based side Greetland. Greetland like so many of our previous opponents started like a house on fire trying to play with a high tempo & dictate proceedings. The question was for how long?

That answer was 35 minutes & for 35 Bradford United once again showed character and bottle whilst under the cosh, Bradford weathered the storm. Truth be told we had belief we would have our moments which we did and took. Firstly, Juwara was alert to tap in from a Mehmet shot which the keeper parried. Secondly, as Greetland were on the ropes 2 minutes later Khurram & Brendan linked up majestically with Brendan finding the back of the net from 20 yards.

Second half Bradford were mainly on top without being able to add to the lead having missed by whiskers on several occasions. Greetland did get one back with 10 minutes giving us flashbacks of last week. However, Bradford stood broad & tall seeing this one out when all seemed against us with the ref sin binning one of our lads having question a decision.

Onto 3 weeks of cup games giving us a break from the league. Well done to everyone involved. Backs against the wall, 12 men grinded out a must needed victory.

⚽️MAMZI> MUJ
⚽️YASEEN> MAHEEN
⚽️MAZN> RICARDO

1 change made to the line up from last game as we looked for back to back wins. Ricardo in for Ray (illness).

FIRST HALF:

With the opposition arriving a little late, we wanted to get at them from the get go but we couldn’t find our rhythm for the first 15 minutes. It seemed end to end for some odd reason. As usual, we had a few half chances but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. They threatened us with the long ball but we stood tall and didn’t concede. After some long passes attempted from us, we started to keep the ball better.

Our first goal came from MUAWIYAH pouncing on a parry from the keeper from oskar’s shot. From this point, it looked like there was only one team who could score the next goals in the game. We got our 2nd and 3rd goals in similar fashion as the first goal with mamzi scoring 2 goals from close range from muj’s set pieces which were also parried by the keeper.

Half time 3-0

SECOND HALF:

Yorkshire amateurs started the second half on the front foot as we struggled to continue on our dominance from the first half. After some sloppy play from us losing the ball and not working hard to win it back, they scored 2 quick goals to make it 3-2. It was the wake up call we needed and deserved after we took the foot of the gas.

From here on we got back to playing our way and dominating with occasionally riding our luck. We got further 2 goals through yaseen finishing well after some good work from mahine and mazn scoring the last goal of the game rolling the ball to an empty net.

All in all a well deserved win but its clear we have a lot of work to do in certain areas.

Things to improve on:

  1. Dont force passes and keep it simple to open up space between the lines. (Same as last week)
  2. Got to stay focused for the whole game not in phases otherwise we will get punished.

Positives from today:

  1. Creating lots of chances
  2. 5 goals scored
  3. 4 different goals scorers
  4. Some impressive individual performances.

MOTM: –
MAMZI (2 GOALS) and a wall at the back making some crucial challenges.

Other deserved mentions:

  • RICARDO- fantastic all round defensive performance and could easily have been MOTM.
  • Zain- another faultless performance

WELL DONE BOYS👏

Bradford United Players selected for YAL Rep Squad.

The YAL representative squad has been announced for the upcoming friendly fixture on Monday 6th November at Bradford Park Avenue’s Horsfall Stadium.

Bradford United have made a strong representation with four players being selected. Prolific forward duo Umar Ali and Brendan will provide firepower to an exciting forward line. Both have been in scintillating form this season, driving Bradford United to the top of the Supreme Division.

Umar has been the talisman for United having scored 30 plus goals since the start of last season. Clinical in front of goal and deadly in front of the camera.

Brendan has been a well known commodity in the local football scene & has proved every worth this season currently leading the YAL supreme scoring charts.

Finally, Brad who has been a breath of fresh air slotting into left back with ease hardly putting any foot wrong. Not seen an opposition dribble past him shows his defensive capabilities and will provide natural left footed balance in the defence.

Well done to Umar, Musa, Brendan & Bradley who have been picked to represent the league side.

Congrats to all. Well deserved. The call ups are a vindication of the work the club, management and players have put in over the past few years united having the most presented club.

Match Report: Huddersfield Amateur v Bradford United Ladies

Huddersfield Amateur V Bradford United

The ladies’ team faced a challenging day on the pitch, succumbing to a final scoreline of 10-3.

From the opening whistle, it was clear that the opposition possessed a formidable offensive force. Huddersfield Amateurs attackers showcased remarkable skill and precision, finding the back of the net repeatedly in the first half..

With each passing minute, it was clear that exhaustion was taking its toll. The pressure from their opponents caused a drop in their spirits as they struggled to keep up with the pace.

In the end, despite the initial drop in energy and spirits, Zahra managed to bag in a Hatrick. This match was a testament to their resilience, determination, and ability to overcome adversity on the football pitch. Their perseverance paid off with the help of some perfectly executed through ball that split the defense wide open.
