Phoenix FC beat Coleagians 2-1 this week in a game they dominated the ball but failed to capitalise on a flurry of chances.
Going 2-0 up early with goals from Attaur and Zaid by some brilliant build up play it looked like Phoenix would put the game to bed early.
Collegians got back into the game with a goal just before half time. Phoenix continued to dominate possession and create chances but failed to convert anything in the second half.
A much improved defensive display from the team kept Collegians frustrated throughout the second half eventually turning the game into a hard fought victory. Most importantly another 3 points to the tally for our firsts.

Following last weeks impressive win; the under 23s looked to make it 2 in a row.
The message was clear, let’s start fast and keep moving the ball & that’s what we did with Anas Najeh taking it upon himself to pick up his first goal of the season with a nice tidy finish 2 minutes in. 1-0 Phoenix.
There’s the saying 1 brings 2, that came to fruition on this occasion as the opposition couldn’t come to terms with our energy and precise passing resulting in Musa grabbing his 4th in 2 games. The rest of the half had similar patterns without a goal to show for it.
At half time the team recognised the importance of the next goal; we get it the games over. Unfortunately for us, the opposition scored first. This resulted in the next 20-25 minutes being really cagey with neither side creating anything of note.
Then as the game came closer to the full time whistle. A Phoenix defender decided it was a good idea fouling the Ealandians striker in the penalty box resulting in the referee pointing to the spot. As Phoenix were holding onto the razor thin 2-1 lead all eyes were on Kashif Tahir as he had the chance to repeat his heroics in the Bradford Summer Cup final. The penalty taker steps up and its SAVED as Kash dives to his left and gathers the penalty saving Phoenix from dropping a vital two points.
5 minutes later; Husayn capitalised on the Phoenix momentum; making the game 3-1. Moments later, Phoenix were in once again; this time Musa went around the keeper and was brought down; Penalty! Who steps up, KASH! He’s saved a penalty but can he score one? Of course he can, as he slots the penalty into the top left corner like a number 9 leaving the keeper no chance.

Phoenix FC firsts won their first ever derby fixture vs an experienced Premier division team, St Bedes.
Phoenix started the game strong with a few chances early on eventually taking the lead with Attaur converting a rebound.
Phoenix continued to dominate the ball but could not convert their chances in the first half, coming in at half time with a 3-1 lead.
A goal fest second half started with Phoenix adding a 4th to their day. St Bedes showed their experience of being in this division for years and gave Phoenix a lesson not to take the foot off the pedal at this level. A couple of quick goals meant Phoenix had to find their rhythm again. Phoenix bagged a 5th but St Bedes replied with one of their own in the final minutes of the game, ending a dramatic game at 5-4.
Manager Zaf was disappointed with the missed chances but was full of praise with the graft put in by the boys despite some scares. A good first derby day win for the lads!
